At FOF, seed purity and genetic integrity are central to our agricultural cooperative outgrower programs. In collaboration with the Seed Control and Certification Institute (SCCI) and local agronomists, our Lead Farmers carefully multiply specialized registered foundation seeds. This results in high-germinating crop varieties tailored to withstand regional rainfall patterns and pest challenges across Zambia.
Groundnuts are a good source of food nutrient both to humans and soil. Their high energy value; their protein, vitamin and mineral content; their cholesterol free and low salt status – all combine to give groundnuts an A+ in nutrition. They are an excellent cash crop and can be eaten raw, boiled or roasted.
Groundnuts are a good substitute for milk and helps to reduce malnutrition in children below 5 years.

A robust, high-yielding confectionery-style bunch variety with 4 primary branches and several secondary branches, featuring distinctive pod constriction and reticulation patterns.
This variety is characterized by an erect plant habit where the main stem is longer than primary branches. It does exceptionally well in medium to high altitudes.
Wamusanga is designed for ultimate climate resilience. Known for its wide-elliptic leaf shape and having between 4-7 primary branches (with the main stem shorter than primary branches).
A Spanish type groundnut variety that grows exceptionally well in low altitudes, but can also adapt to higher altitudes through delayed planting strategies.
MGV 9 is a confectionery bunch variety characterized by exceptional foliar disease tolerance and outstanding grain quality. Highly preferred for late planting seasons.
We have a program to introduce other legumes like pigeon peas and navy beans for both local market and exports.

Our lead farmers multiply high-demand registered Soya bean seeds to enhance crop rotation effectiveness and maintain soil health.
The Kafue variety of soya beans is a middle to late maturing variety and it has a vigorous seedling establishment.
Kafue has a high fodder yield (crop residue after threshing). This is as a result of high biomass production.
It is a self nodulating variety and as such it is important for maintaining soil health and good for crop rotation.
It is a variety that is tolerant and resistant to pod borer, thrips, common soya beans fly, purple seed stain, and pod sucking bug.
Cowpeas are highly nutritious legumes that are extremely resilient to heat and drought, making them an excellent climate-smart crop for Zambian soils. They are vital for nitrogen fixation, replenishing soil fertility, and providing rich protein-filled food and cattle fodder.
